Madonna del Sasso is a small village on the western shore of Lake Orta. Its 450 inhabitants live in several hamlets that form the town, where there are many interesting churches from an artistic point of view, as the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, of the thirteenth century, the beautiful church of San Bernardino, in the hamlet of Artò or the church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the sixteenth century.
But the most important and famous church of the town is the evocative Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso, which stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Lake Orta, to 638 meters above sea level. From the square in front of the church, called "the balcony of Cusio", a spectacular view of almost the entire lake, the Alps and the plains towards Novara can be enjoyed.
